Can I get my company to pay for this?
A lot of companies have training budgets, where they actually have money kept aside for their employees to take courses like this to aid their professional development. If this is the case for you, then great! If your company doesn’t explicitly say they offer it, it’s sometimes worth having a discussion with them to see if it’s a possibility. From our experience what normally happens here is that you’d have discussion with your HR department or manager,
– What the course is about (also what the Design Sprint is and why it’s used, if they don’t already know)
– What you’ll personally get from it
– What the company/your team will get from you being part of it
– How you’ll apply the learnings to your everyday work
– What the cost of the course is
– How long it’ll take you to complete it
– An actionable ‘next step’ from the course (i.e. facilitating a Sprint at the company)
If you get the ‘green light’ from them then it’ll be totally dependant on the company whether they want you to pay and then send them the receipt for reimbursement, or whether they want to pay on your behalf.
About 20% of people currently enrolled in our Design Sprint Masterclass have managed to get their company to pay for it, but so far everyone we’ve spoken to has said that regardless of whether they paid themselves or not, they feel like the investment will be totally worth it and that they’ll make the money back from the benefits of taking the course anyway (professional development, promotions, new client offerings, etc.)
Why should I learn from AJ&Smart instead of other course providers?
We have real-world experience from running successful Sprints for over 200 global companies. We also work very closely with Jake Knapp, the creator of the Design Sprint and author of Sprint. We are continually improving the process together with him, so you can be confident that with us you’re learning the most up-to-date (tried & tested!) version of The Design Sprint. Our complete focus with this course is to enable you to run your own Design Sprints confidently, and equip you with everything you need to make that happen, quickly.
Can I use PayPal Credit (buy now, pay later) for this?
Yes! If you’re in the US you should be able to use PayPal credit
, where PayPal will make the payment for you and then you pay them in an interest-free payment plan. You just need to sign-up and get approved.
What do I actually get when I buy?
Access to all the course videos, that not only describe the process in a great deal of detail, but also the mindset and very concrete tactics that you can put to work immediately. You also get access to all the bonus materials, including the Design Sprint cheatsheet, the preparation checklist, and facilitators toolkit, and lifetime access to the AJ&Smart Design Sprint community. As a student on the course you'll get lifetime access to all course improvements (we’re a big believer of continuous improvements, and you’ll get to benefit from this!)
How long does the course take?
The course is totally self-paced and you can move through the materials at a pace you’re comfortable with. It’s our aim to make you Design Sprint-facilitation-ready as quickly as possible and we don’t want to waste your time with pointless exercises and tasks that don’t contribute to you becoming a confident facilitator, so we estimate that you can complete the course and be ready to facilitate your first Sprint within 2 weekends, without stress.
Will I actually be able to facilitate a sprint after completing the course?
Yes! Our goal is to provide you with all the knowledge, information and the toolkit you need to confidently facilitate a successful Sprint. Everything included in this course are what we wish we had known before we started doing Sprints, and also stuff we’ve built up over time and loads of real-life experience doing Sprints with a range of different companies. Something you feel like you’re missing at the end? Just tell us and we’ll make it happen!
What’s the level of this course? Can I take it if I’m a total beginner? And what if I already know a lot about The Sprint?
We’ve designed the course to be beneficial both to people who are just starting out, and those who are already somewhat familiar with the Design Sprint.
The course materials take you through absolutely everything, start to finish, but if you’re already a Design Sprint facilitator then you probably won’t need to go through all the exercises, but things like the presentation slides, cheatsheet, and prototyping templates will probably be the most useful stuff, and maybe hearing some of our learnings throughout the videos will also help you avoid some common mistakes and learn some ‘hacks’
Why don’t I get a Mentor?
We’ve designed the materials so that you won’t need one. We make everything as detailed and descriptive as possible so that you don’t need to ask a Mentor questions and wait for their answer, something that we feel breaks up the flow and could delay your progress. With this said, if you come up against questions or problems as you go through the course then we’ll always give you multiple ways to reach out to us to help, and we’ll happily do so 🙂
Do I need to buy the book?
Nope! Of course it’s nice to have the book to read alongside the course as you move through it, but it’s certainly not required since we’ll cover everything in the exercises.
Are there exercises that I need to complete?
We don’t have ‘formal’ exercises that you need to complete and submit. We’re big believers in not breaking up your learning flow, and we know these exercises often provide barriers where you need to submit something and wait for a response before you progress – this isn’t what this course is about. You’ll be able to move through at your own pace and learn in a style that’s comfortable to you – we’ll also make sure you have everything you need so that you don’t need to complete arbitrary exercises just to say you’ve done them.
Will I get a certified?
Yes! You’ll be individually certified by us as a Design Sprint Facilitator. Our course is also the only Design Sprint Facilitation course recognised personally by Jake Knapp, Author of Sprint.
Can I find all of this information online for free?
In theory you probably could, and we’ve always been advocates for making the Design Sprint as open as possible, and our aim is to get as many people as possible using it (as long as they do it properly!) however to get all the information in a structured way, and all the toolkit and materials for free, would be really hard and would take hours of piecing bits of information together. Also, most of the information that’s readily available is on the internet (including our own) speaks to a total beginner audience, whereas the material in our course, while suitable for beginners, will give you a deep-dive into the Sprint and all the process and materials around it. The toolkit we provide as part of the course is the actual ‘live’ stuff we’re currently using with our Sprint clients, and we’ve never made it readily available, and to our knowledge, there isn’t anyone else putting this stuff out there.
What should I do after I complete the course?
By the time you complete our course you’ll have everything you need to successfully run your own Design Sprint, so we’d very much encourage you to do so! You’ll also have lifetime access to all the materials to reflect back on and use however you wish afterwords. We’d also encourage you to keep in touch with us and let us know if there’s something we can do to help you with your future Sprints!
Can my employer pay for my course?
Absolutely! If you have a lovely employer who is happy to cover the costs of your course then they can either pay through the normal way on our course site, or you can contact us and let us know details for invoicing.
How does payment work?
We offer two payment options: one is paying everything up-front, and the other is paying in two instalments over 2 months. We work with Stripe and everything is handled completely securely. You can also use PayPal credit if you are in a region where this is supported.
What about VAT?
We cover all VAT costs, so you won’t be charged.
You guys have a course on Udacity already – how is this going to be different?
The course on Udacity is a great entry-level course as an introduction, however it doesn’t get into as many of the focused details as this one – it also hasn’t been updated since we started doing the more updated version of the Sprint (the one we worked on Jake Knapp with). The Udacity course also doesn’t give you access to the toolkit, like the slides we use, the checklist etc.
What if I already have done your AJ&Smart Udacity course?
Our Udacity course is a fantastic introduction to the Design Sprint. Our MasterClass has enough brand new in-depth exercises and exclusive resources that you can’t find anywhere else, to help take you to the next level. Because we know you’ll love our course, we’re happy to give all AJ&Smart Udacity students 299€
(the original price of the Udacity course) off their purchase of our Masterclass. Just email your receipt from the Udacity course to firstname.lastname@example.org
I want to train my company/employees – do you offer a bulk discount?
Yes – we’re really passionate about empowering entire teams with the Sprint process. If 5 or more people at your company would like to take the course and become certified, then get in touch with email@example.com
and we can tell you more about our special team pricing and certification.
